The dedication to animals at Weems Road Animal Hospital in Columbus, GA runs deep. Their mission is fueled by a profound love and passion for all creatures, which is why they are thrilled to partner with Paws Humane Society’s Community Cat Program. Community cats are un-owned stray or feral cats living outdoors and are just as deserving of vital veterinary care as any pet.

The Community Cat Program is a TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) program that operates with the support of local residents who request cat care vouchers from Paws Humane Society. These residents can also borrow humane traps to safely transport the cats to the clinic, where they receive same-day spay/neuter surgery and vaccinations. Additionally, the veterinary team performs ear-tipping, a painless procedure that serves as a universal indicator of a spayed or neutered outdoor cat. Last month alone, the team at Weems Road provided this essential care to nine kittens!

The hospital’s commitment to animal welfare extends beyond community cats. Weems Road proudly employs two doctors who are Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioners, offering free conditioning training for the local sheriff’s department canine unit.

Chief of Staff Dr. Scott McDermott sums up their philosophy: “The local community has supported our hospital for over 48 years, so if there is a way we can give back to the community that has treated us so well, we are more than willing.”
