Doctors

Dr. Scott McDermott

Dr. McDermott is a 1997 graduate of the University of Georgia and a 2001 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. McDermott accepted a position within a mixed animal practice in north Georgia where he practiced for over 8 years before purchasing Weems Road Animal Hospital in July 2009. His areas of special interest include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, dietary management and dental health. Dr. McDermott is married to his wife, Amy, and they have four children, Matthew, Katie, Ben and Emily, as well as a dog and cat. Outside of work he likes spending time with family, practicing martial arts, working on cars and reading.

Dr. Carrie Cowley

Dr. Cowley is a Columbus area native who graduated from Auburn College of Veterinary medicine in 2002.  She lives in Columbus with her husband, two children, four dogs, 10 chickens and one rabbit.  She enjoys distance cycling, and is learning to enjoy yoga and guitar.  Her primary interests are internal medicine and dermatology.

Dr. Caitriona Matthews

Dr. Matthews is a 2009 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.  She relocated in 2014 to Columbus, Georgia from Tallahassee with her husband, two children and three dogs.  She enjoys running, reading and playing cello.  Her primary interests are internal medicine, radiology and behavior.

Mandy Rhodes

Mandy was born and raised here in Columbus, Georgia. She brought her first pet to Weems Road Animal Hospital when she was 5 years old and has been employed since 1997. Mandy is married to her husband Daniel and has two daughters, Alyssa and Ava, as well as two cats.  She enjoys riding bikes and yoga.


Receptionists

Amber Upton 
Amber began working as a veterinary volunteer at the age of 17. When she graduated high school in 2008, she found her love for animals was so great that she wanted to pursue a career in the veterinary field. We welcomed Amber to our team in 2011. She is married to her husband, John, and they have a daughter, Rayleigh, and a son, Wyatt. She also has 3 dogs Ellie Mae, Duke and Bama. Amber enjoys the outdoors, spending time with her family and furry friends.

Kelly Pagano

Kelly was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia. She joined the Weems Road team in 2015 after moving to Columbus with husband Sam. They share their home with a German Shepherd named Jäger, a Husky/Boxer mix named Eva and a spunky cat named Kimber.  She enjoys yoga and traveling with her husband.


Veterinary Nurses

Brittany Gorman

Brittany was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, but has lived in Columbus since 2012. She has been working in the vet field since she was 18 and thoroughly enjoys everything vet medicine has to offer. She has two young boys and in her free time enjoys yoga, spending time with her children and listening to music.

Candi Hall

Candi has been working in the veterinary field since 2005 and became an official part of the Weems Road team in 2013.  She and her husband have one son and they share their house with six dogs and a cat.

Ruby Curlee

Ruby joined our team in August 2013. She always brings a smile into the room and says that any day she gets to spend with animals is a good day. Ruby and her husband share their house with three dogs and two cats.

Olivia Miller

Olivia was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia.  She is currently attending Columbus State University and is majoring in biology and pre-veterinary medicine. She has many fur-babies including her cats Mexi, Sampson, Mouse and Miss Priss, and her dog, Dexter.  Olivia enjoys working out, listening to music and hanging out with her friends.


Kennel Staff

Nicole Rahm

Nicole has been the kennel manager at Weems Road Animal Hospital since 1997 and any pets that have boarded here know her well. Nicole enjoys painting and spending her free time with her four cats and one dog.

Logan Greer

Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, Logan is currently a senior biology major at Columbus State University. He joined our team in 2016.
